Ayishat Akanbi is a cultural commentator, stylist and artist. A friend of Studio Nicholson, we asked Ayishat to pull together a playlist for the Modular Sounds series. Based in London, she utilises her large digital following to confront topics including injustice and inequality. Her book, The Awokening: Clarity, Culture and Identity in the Web of Chaos is out now.
Speaking about her musical selection for Studio Nicholson, she said, “Though my playlist is multi-genre, ranging from fusion jazz, downtempo electronica and doo-wop – this random collection that pulls together a few of my favourite songs is held together by an ethereal quality. It’s music for the mental traveller. Songs of sensuality and deep sensitivity.”
