Takayuki Minami opened Graphpaper in the Aoyama district of Tokyo in February 2015. The creative director is known for creating some of Japan's most influential retail spaces including 1LDK (a previous feature).
The concept was inspired by the Swiss curator Harald Szeemann, who reformed the methodology of curating and viewed it in itself as an art form. At first sight, the interior appears to be an empty room with rectangular paintings on the walls, but the 'canvases' can be pulled out to reveal drawers and shelves filled with a selection of clothes, accessories, kitchenware and interior goods.
Black cupboards on the ground floor for menswear and white for womenswear on the first house a carefully curated selection of pieces from brands including ACRONYM, Henderscheme, Auralee, Frank Leder and of course Studio Nicholson.
