Leather Bags Collection Expands with Five New Styles
Following the launch of our debut leather bag collection in Spring 2024, Studio Nicholson presents five new exclusive unisex styles. Showcasing multiple variations in size and silhouette in either premium, grained calf leather or soft, tactile suede, each piece offers a unique reflection of shapes found in our ready-to-wear pieces. Each bag is thoughtfully designed from Italian-sourced skins in a choice of five colourways with tonal hand-painted edges, whilst an element of hardware is introduced for purpose and function.
Evolving from the Doublet large tote from the debut bag collection, the Doublet Type 2 is a more masculine reinterpretation, flipping the silhouette to a more traditional ‘North-South’ tote configuration. It’s cleverly constructed in Italy with minimal seams, creating a softly structured curved base. The fixed strap is secured on opposite corners, permitting the bag to slouch when worn, and is just long enough for it to be worn closely across the body. Functional details include a concealed magnetic closing, an internal pocket and a detachable zipped pochette.
The elegant Hobo Type 1 is a taller interpretation of ourbestselling Shiboru bag. The seam placement is re-considered to ensure a soft, squashy structure that still feels smart with the addition of a curved zipped closure, finished with a satisfying attached pull strap. A larger iteration, the Hobo Type 2 is a luxurious weekend carry-all, allowing for a generously proportioned slouchy shape, reflecting the relaxed elegance of Studio Nicholson’s signature ready-to-wear pieces. Each is made in Italy and available in leather or suede.
Studio Nicholson welcomes two new small leather styles to the leather bag collection, the Meshi and Pochi. The clever construction of these unisex options combines perpendicular lines with the curved, to create interesting volume in compact shapes.
The Meshi is inspired by the shape of a Japanese bento box and is a neat and compact cross-body bag with an adjustable strap. This pared-back, flap-front style is thoughtfully constructed from grained leather to minimise stitched seams – a design detail evidenced in the folded base. It maintains the rounded perpendicular corners of the Shiboru and Doublet that echo a shoulder construction in Studio Nicholson’s soft tailoring with a sliding adjustable strap that can be worn tight under the arm, from the shoulder or across the body.
Taking its name from the Japanese word pōchi – meaning a small pouch or coin purse – this compact accessory is a practical and playful interpretation of functional forms. The long strap can be adjusted by simply tying a knot and is fitted with a laser-branded gunmetal key fob that sits inside the zipped pouch.
"I wanted to extend our bag collection to a more versatile range, from the mini to the grand, fit for many purposes and with a more unisex approach. This wider series now allows for options for styling, from small details to a statement within the look.
I love to add the Pochi and Meshi into looks to add interest, but also, everyone loves a hands-free approach, and these smaller bags allow that for everyone. Meanwhile, the Hobo Type 2 really transforms your silhouette due to its grand size; I love the plush Darkest Navy Suede option. It gives maximum slouch."
