Ang Lee’s ‘The Ice Storm’ - a 1990s ensemble drama set in the early 1970s and full of excellent clothing - is a film our Founder and Creative Director, Nick Wakeman, often returns to and became one of this season’s key scene setters.

The Men's Autumn '26 collection explores familiar wardrobe archetypes through refined proportion, texture, and material. Inspired by the understated elegance of 1970s dressing, the collection combines designer tailoring, premium outerwear, shirting, knitwear, and denim with a focus on longevity rather than seasonal novelty. Each piece is designed to work independently or alongside existing Studio Nicholson garments, creating a wardrobe that evolves naturally through considered additions rather than constant replacement.

A considered autumn wardrobe is shaped by versatile layers that adapt as the season changes. Designer jackets, tailored trousers, premium shirting, and refined knitwear create a foundation that can be worn across different settings, while denim introduces a more relaxed contrast. By prioritising quality materials and balanced silhouettes, each garment becomes easier to wear repeatedly, allowing a smaller collection of pieces to create a wider range of combinations.

Material influences how a garment looks, feels, and performs over time. Throughout the Autumn '26 collection, wool, suede, cotton, denim, and jersey have been selected for their texture, durability, and ability to develop character through wear. Rather than relying on overt detailing, the collection allows fabrication and construction to define each piece, creating designer menswear that remains relevant through repeated use and changing seasons.

Modern designer tailoring is intended to move easily between different environments. Relaxed trousers can be styled with premium jersey or knitwear for everyday wear, while unstructured jackets pair naturally with denim or refined shirting. Rather than being reserved for occasion dressing, relaxed tailoring provides structure without rigidity, making it a practical foundation for a contemporary wardrobe.

Layering begins with proportion. Lightweight shirts and jersey provide a clean base beneath knitwear, while wool and suede outerwear introduce warmth and structure without unnecessary bulk. The collection has been designed so that garments work together naturally, allowing texture and silhouette to create depth while maintaining the restrained aesthetic that defines Studio Nicholson.
